The Dreaded Chaining in Crochet
I do not enjoy repetitive tasks, hence why I tend to look for automation solutions when possible. If you are anything like me, you probably don’t enjoy creating long chains when crocheting for the base of your project. So instead, I will walk you through the process of not needing to do so.
These instructions will explain how to do double crochets or dc without the need to create long chains in 10 easy steps.
Step 1:
Create a slip knot and place the hook in the slip knot and chain 4.
Step 2:
Yarn over (YO) hook and insert your hook into the first chain
Step 3:
Yarn over (YO) and pull through ONE loop on hook
Step 4:
Yarn over (YO) and pull through One loop again on needle
Step 5:
Yarn over (YO) and pull through TWO loops; do this twice. You should now have one loop on your hook but two completed double crochet (dc)
Step 6:
Yarn over (YO) and insert hook into the first loop at the bottom of your last created dc
Step 7:
Yarn over (YO) and pull through ONE loop
Step 8:
Yarn over (YO) and pull through ONE loop AGAIN
Step 9:
Yarn over (YO) and pull through two loops – do this twice and you should now have another dc completed.
Step 10:
Continue to repeat Steps 6 through 9 until you have the desired amount of double crochet (dc), then turn and continue crocheting as usual. This can be done for all other stitches. Below is an image of 49 dc using this technique.
